Rail corrosion, especially at the base of the rail, is a serious problem that can compromise the integrity of the rail structures. Modern railway systems are subject to fast speed and high load trains. The corrosion of the rail with the cyclic loading may lead to corrosion fatigue failure of the rail structures. Furthermore, it is exposed to various environments such as tunnel area, sea side with different corrosive elements, humidity and temperature.
